On Wednesday, November 10, 2021, The South Texas Energy and Economic Roundtable (STEER) held its annual Eagle Ford Excellence Awards, which honor companies and organizations working in or with the oil and natural gas industry for their diligent efforts in protecting the environment, developing innovative technologies, making safety a top priority and giving back to the communities they serve.
This year’s awards, which recognize excellence in the areas of Community and Social Investment, Environmental Stewardship, Neighborhood Impression and Innovation in Technology were presented at a luncheon event in San Antonio.
Teddy Carter, Chair of the STEER Advisory Council, said, “It’s an honor to recognize the contributions of the oil and natural gas industry, our local partners and elected officials whose investments and innovations are strengthening South Texas communities. This year’s Eagle Ford Excellence Award winners include innovators, environmental stewards and community partners who have gone above and beyond for the people of South Texas.”
Recipients of the 2021 Eagle Ford Excellence Awards:
Community and Social Investment (less than 250 employees): McMullen County
McMullen County built and opened a new emergency shelter/emergency operations center which includes stored meal packets, water and cots/blankets for bedding. This facility provides temporary housing and shelter out of harm’s way during emergencies in McMullen County.
Community and Social Investment (more than 250 employees): “Keep South Texas Roads Clean”
“Keep South Texas Roads Clean” is an innovative partnership between four major operators including ConocoPhillips, Ensign Natural Resources, EOG Resources and Marathon Oil to proactively keep roadsides clean in the Eagle Ford.
Environmental Stewardship: WaterFleet, LLC
WaterFleet, LLC is committed to service related to water quality and conservation in the oil and natural gas industry. WaterFleet acts as a mobile water and wastewater utility, bringing technology and managed operations to drilling sites that provide a significant uplift in the quality of life for onsite workers and reduces trucking and water use during operations. WaterFleet services eliminate the need to haul in a separate water supply just for housing and treats wastewater to a reuse standard water source that allows it to be put back into industrial use at the site.
Neighborhood Impression: Education to Employment Partners (E2E)
Led by a 17-member board of directors, E2E provides youth programs, conducts professional development for educators, leads education forums and establishes programs designed to increase postsecondary and career success.
Innovation in Technology: La Salle County
La Salle County has built a new and expanded Dispatcher Communication Center with upgraded 911 capabilities, targeting innovation and the highest level of technology and efficiency. Primary operational goals include seamlessly aiding first responders with fast, accurate and detailed incident information to advance first responder deployment with precise and rapid lifesaving responses.
Eagle Ford Excellence Award: Glynis Strause, ConocoPhillips
Glynis Strause is being recognized for going above and beyond in representing the oil and natural gas industry across the Eagle Ford Shale and for engaging consistently as a trusted partner for communities across the region.
About South Texas Energy and Economic Roundtable (STEER)
STEER is the leading Eagle Ford Shale resource in the region and is the primary coordinator for communication and public advocacy surrounding the oil and natural gas industry in South Texas. STEER serves as the bridge connecting the industry and communities throughout South Texas to ensure positive collaboration and communication surrounding the activities associated with energy production in the Eagle Ford Shale and Rio Grande Valley. In 2018, the boards of STEER and TXOGA approved the merger of STEER into TXOGA. The merger was finalized on January 1, 2020.
