Q & A with Jennifer Satterwhite

As an Environmental Supervisor for Chevron, Jennifer Satterwhite has high-level experience in the oil and gas business. In the interview below, she answers a few questions about her career and involvement in the energy industry.

Q: What is your role in the company? Why is this important?

A: My role at Chevron is an Environmental Supervisor. I support our Mid-continent business for our North America Exploration and Production Company in Houston, Texas.  At Chevron, the protection of people and the environment are the most important things that we do.  It is part of who we are and how we operate as a company.  Being able to be part of that each day is very rewarding. And being a supervisor allows me to coach and help develop employees and future leaders of the company.

Q: Why do you enjoy working in the oil and gas industry as a woman?

A: I enjoy working in the oil and gas industry because it’s interesting and challenging.  Each day brings opportunities for problem solving, working together, and delivering visible results. Working in this industry also provides continuous growth and development – for me in HES [Health, Environmental and Safety] it could be new regulations, changing technologies, or different stakeholders – I learn something new every day.

Q: Why is this industry so important to to your family/ neighborhood/community/state/ nation?

A: The industry is important to me for various reasons.  For one, it supports my family. Also, in the many locations I have lived across the U.S. with Chevron, the industry is a partner and integral part of the community. We give back to the communities where we operate through volunteer activities and outreach programs.  And finally, it’s important to both Texas and the nation, so that we can develop resources responsibly and be energy independent.

The Texas natural gas industry is a powerhouse, producing more natural gas than any other state in the nation—and the world is literally knocking at our door in energy need. In addition to cementing America’s energy security, Texas’ natural gas producers, pipelines, refiners, and exporters are playing an essential role in delivering stability in the form of affordable, reliable energy to our trade partners, even in times of continued global unrest.
