Innovation on Display at Texas Energy Day

It is no secret that the oil and natural gas industry operates ground-breaking technology in the procurement, production, transportation and refining of oil and gas. At the first-ever Texas Energy Day on March 22, 2017, industry innovation was on full display as Texans from across the state were in Austin to tell lawmakers why oil and natural gas matter to them.

Times have changed since the oil and natural gas era was born in Texas. Today’s oil and natural gas industry has evolved since those early discoveries, with operators deploying innovation and technologies that are on par with NASA. In fact, some oil and natural gas technologies have been developed with NASA.  At Texas Energy Day, attendees had the unique experience of witnessing how some of these technologies work in their effort to improve our lives.

Chevron brought virtual reality goggles for attendees to experience an offshore rig, Hess brought giant drill bits for people to see and feel industry equipment, and Energy Transfer had an R3 Pipe Truck with state-of-the-art in-line inspection tool – a piece of equipment called a “pig” that’s dropped in and allows operators to see inside miles and miles of pipeline. Cheniere had an LNG display where attendees watched natural gas become liquefied before their very eyes, Pioneer brought a frack truck and Data Van – a mobile command center that gathers real-time data and can control all critical well site equipment while monitoring, recording and supervising hydraulic fracturing, Apache had a Frack pump tractor/trailor, Enterprise Products brought an 811 Truck (Call Before You Dig), and Shell brought a NASCAR.
