Oil and Natural Gas Employees, Supporters and Partners Meet with Legislators to Highlight the Importance of Texas’ Energy Leadership to the Nation and the World
AUSTIN – Hundreds of Texans, including employees, partners and supporters of the Texas energy industry, convened in Austin today for Texas Energy Day @ the Capitol, an event sponsored by more than 40 companies, organizations and allied trades from across the state to reinforce the importance of the oil and natural gas industry to our state and nation’s economic and energy security.
Texas Energy Day @ the Capitol participants heard from state leadership and spoke directly to legislators and regulators, urging them to hold fast to the policies that enabled Texas to position the United States as the world’s #1 producer of oil and natural gas, the world’s top exporter of liquified natural gas (LNG) and a net exporter of energy, while maintaining unmatched success in environmental protection and innovation.
Texas Energy Day participants reminded legislators that in fiscal year 2024, the Texas oil and natural gas industry paid more than $27.3 billion in state and local taxes and state royalties – a figure higher than the entire tax revenue of 34 states. Further, Texas leads the nation in oil and natural gas production, pipeline miles, and refining capacity, and nearly 500,000 Texans have a direct job in the Texas oil and natural gas industry.
“The men and women of the Texas oil and natural gas industry have transformed America’s global energy profile and directly eroded negative impacts of Russian aggression, undercut our nation’s adversaries and helped to stabilize energy prices at home and abroad,” said Todd Staples, president of the Texas Oil & Gas Association. “I am so honored to stand alongside them today to tell the incredible story of their life’s work, to spread the news that Texas oil and natural gas are not just a state treasure; they are a national asset that powers American progress and prosperity.”
To recognize Texas Energy Day @ the Capitol, State Representative Drew Darby sponsored House Resolution 127. “Texas oil and gas truly powers our state, nation, and the world. I am proud to support the industry as we recognize Texas Energy Day at the Capitol,” said Representative Darby.
Recognizing Texas Energy Day @ the Capitol in the Texas Senate, Senator Brian Birdwell sponsored Senate Resolution 20 which said in part, “Thanks to abundant natural resources, generational knowledge, and bold leadership, the Texas oil and gas industry plays a pivotal role in powering modern life, preserving American economic vitality and energy security, and promoting stability for our allies around the globe.”
Along with the hundreds participating in Texas Energy Day @ the Capitol in Austin, Texans from across Texas lent their voice to the cause online, utilizing social platforms to join those in attendance in Austin in sharing with their lawmakers why oil and natural gas matters to them, their families, and the state.
